Why you should not take too much medicine

4

We live in an age where medicines are more potent and powerful. At the same time, bacteria and viruses as well are getting tougher and tougher to beat. Being ordinary people who are not medical practitioners, we need to make sure that we should not take in medicine more than what our body needs to get better. This means that you should not take powerful antibiotics just for a common cold or a cough. This is tantamount to killing a fly with a bazooka – not a very pretty picture now is it. Having a normal headache does not mean that you should pop three of four aspirins as well for you to feel better. Minimalism is key. And that also means that you should stick to your doctor’s prescription. Do not take in more medicine that what your body needs. This increases your tolerance, which means that a normal dosage of medicine may no longer work for you. This also means that the increased amount of medicine puts your body on overtime – particularly your kidneys and liver. These are the organs of your body that are responsible for filtering all the chemicals that you put in your body. And overworking these parts of your body can have disastrous effects in the long run as well. So you need to make sure that you are careful with whatever drug or medicine that you put in your body. You do not want to grow old having to have regular dialysis treatments or having a weakened liver.
