Staying healthy at work can be hard because you are constantly faced with a colleagues birthday treat, work events and meeting snacks. But since we spend most of our days at work, it is important that we stay healthy while at our desk.

Eat breakfast – To fuel up for the day, start of with a healthy breakfast. Porridge is a great, quick option. Since it is a slow release carb, you will stay full and have energy to work till lunch.

Bring your own lunch – Instead of deciding on what to eat when you’re hungry, pack your own lunch. You could include a lot of healthy seasonal vegetables (grilled or boiled) with a lean protein like fish or chicken.

Drink water – Thirst can sometimes be confused as hunger. Keep a large bottle or jug of water at your desk and keep drinking. If you prefer it flavoured, add some lemon or lime slices.

Take some snacks – To avoid being tempted during the day, pack a few snacks. You could include bananas, crackers and cheese, raw vegetables and nuts.

Coffee – Drinking coffee can suppress your hunger and help you power through those boring meetings. But be aware of the fancy coffees that are laden with sugar and fat. If your reaching for a coffee choose a long black or a skinny cappuccino/ latte.

Research your takeout options – It’s good to have a few “go to” takeout options, that are healthy. Look through the internet for a few local restaurants that deliver healthy meals. This way, if you or a colleague is looking to order takeout, you’ve always got a few healthy options on hand.
