D.A.S.H Diet Named the Best Overall Diet in 2012, for the Third Year in a Row

For the third year in a row, the D.A.S.H diet has been named the best overall diet from a list of 29 other diets reviewed by the publication, U.S News.

In explaining the intent of this annual report, U.S News and World Report Health & Wellness Editor, Angela Haupt, said, “Our goal is to point people to the best diet no matter what their goal is. Dieting sounds so dreadful, but it doesn’t have to be that way at all.”

She also went to say that some people do not wish to reduce their waistlines but might want to drop their cholesterol levels instead, and this report caters to them as well as those who want to lose weight.

Several factors were taken into consideration when giving the top spot of the diet report. Some of them included: being simple, safe, easy-to-follow, nutritious and able to manage weight loss as well as diabetes effectively.

And among a list of 29 diets available, the D.A.S.H diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) took the top spot overall while the Weight Watchers Diet stood first in the weight-loss category.

The D.A.S.H Diet, according to U.S News, has the ability to increase good cholesterol levels and decrease bad cholesterol levels at the same time and recommends high fruit and vegetable intake as opposed to lowering consumption when it comes to saturated fats, sugar and salt.

The Jenny Craig Diet, Biggest Loser Diet and the Raw Food Diet stood jointly in second place in the weight-loss category.
