Appendicitis is rare compared to the other forms of stomach troubles like constipation, diarrhea, food poisoning and stomach viruses. However, it is said that 5% of the population do experience appendicitis and therefore will require quick medical treatment. Here are five signs your appendix is about to burst.

Your stomach hurts like never before – Appendicitis can cause stomach pain that extends from the belly button to the lower right side of the abdomen. Doctors advise that if you feel more pain when you walk, cough, or go over a bump in a car, you should seek medical help immediately.

You feel nauseous, vomit or have a poor appetite – When your appendix is inflamed, you can feel queasy and sometimes vomit.

You’re visiting the bathroom more than usual – The appendix can sometimes be close to the bladder. When your appendix is inflamed, it can push and irritate the bladder, causing you to want to pee more than usual. Remember that these symptoms are similar to a UTI and therefore it is best to visit a doctor at your earliest.

You feel cold and have a fever – If a part of your body is inflamed, you will tend to run a fever. This coupled with the abdominal pain, can be a good indication that your appendix is inflamed.

You’re confused –When your infection gets worse, your mind can get foggy. This can be caused due to a lack of oxygen to the brain due to the inflammation. Therefore avoid driving and ask a friend or a family member to get you to a hospital immediately.
